Inspiration From YouTube

I never knew that one day I would pursue a film major because of YouTube. Louis Cole, better known as FunForLouis, Casey Neistat, and Mr Ben Brown all produce content every single day on youtube, otherwise known as daily vloggers. These 3 people have in some way inspired me to live my own adventure.

“Peace out, enjoy life, and live the adventure, boom” these simple, yet inspiring words have made a big difference in my life. It’s not everyday you come across someone who is spontaneous and takes a trip across the world, all the while filming his adventure. Louis Cole, or FunForLouis, does exactly this. He travels the world with friends and family, experiences new ideas and culture almost everyday, exposes what’s going on around the world, and shares with everyone his adventure. What Louis does that inspires me is he captures life in a beautiful way, whether that’s simply hanging out with family, or him traveling somewhere around the world. In his video MILITARY HEALTH CHECKS Louis travels to Sierra Leone, West Africa, to learn about the Ebola outbreak. While there, as you can see in the video, he hands his phone to the children and they film themselves explaining what’s going on and what they want to be when they grow up. The simple question and the children’s reply is eye-opening. Louis brings awareness to struggles and conflicts that we hear about in the news, but goes further and actually shows us. And that’s what I want to do, document people whether it’s here or across the world, and tell their story.

Similar to FunForLouis is Mr BenBrown. Although I don’t follow his videos everyday, one video in particular has stayed with me and made a lasting impression. His video CANADA - VISUAL VIBES is possibly one of my favorite short films ever. Ben travels to Canada with friends and shows us Canada’s beauty through his perspective, and to this day I still get inspired by it. Again, Ben is able to capture beauty in every day life. The way he filmed it, edited it, and had music all worked together to get out the message of living a good full life and inspiring others. I aspire to be able to produce short films like he does, and inspire others to travel, see the world, and share it.

Lastly, Casey Neistat. Casey captures everyday life in such a unique way, it’s hard not to appreciate everything around you. A typical day for Casey is waking up early, riding his boosted board to work, working, riding home, and spending time with the family. It’s easy for anyone to capture moments like this, but the way he edits, films, and captures the moment is so unique you start to realize we are surrounded by beauty everywhere. After watching his movies, you get the urge to want to go out yourself and explore and capture life. Besides his every day short content, he has created other short films similar to FunForLouis. In his video what would you do with $25,000? 20th Century Fox gives Casey a budget of $25,000 to promote their new movie, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” with the theme of live your dream. With the money and the studios permission, Casey spends every penny helping the typhoon victims in the Philippines. What he shares is heart-breaking. He is able to capture moments of the destroyed area, but manages to capture children playing and smiling. We see people struggling, but coming together to help each other out. Casey is able to share their struggle and at the same time move us. To be able to capture moments like this all around the world and share it, has inspired me to do the same.
